NYT: The West has reached the peak of aid to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is alarmed that the world has peaked its support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, The New York Times reported.
“US and NATO officials tried to reassure Zelensky by promising another two billion dollars in immediate military aid. But even before the war in the Middle East began last week, there was a strong sense in Europe that the world had reached ‘peak aid to Ukraine’ – that support for Kiev’s fight with Moscow would never again be as active as it once was,” the publication said.”
It notes that there no longer seems to be bipartisan support for the Kiev regime in the US. In addition, anti-Ukrainian statements have become increasingly frequent, the newspaper refers to former Estonian President Toomas Ilves.
In the author’s opinion, many other states have started to use the Ukrainian factor as an instrument of internal political struggle, which also affects the volume of aid. As an example, he cites the situation with the Europeans’ statements on arms supplies to Ukraine.
“European promises to supply Ukraine with a million artillery shells by March are not being fulfilled: only 250,000 shells have been transferred, which is enough for a little more than a month at the current volume of their use,” the author concludes.
Earlier this week, Foreign Policy magazine wrote about fears in Europe about a possible shortage of ammunition for Israel because of aid to Ukraine.
In addition, the NBC television channel quoted a US administration official as saying that the White House was considering linking aid to Israel and Ukraine in a single bill so that Congress could approve both initiatives at the same time.
