The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that civilians in the Gaza Strip are forced to drink salty water due to the disconnection of the water supply by Israel. This is stated in a press release of the international organisation.
OCHA reported that civilians in the Gaza Strip are forced to drink brackish water because of the water blockade by Israel. According to experts of the international body, this could increase the risks of spreading diseases in the region.
“People do not have access to clean drinking water after the water supply through the water network and the operation of desalination/treatment plants stopped. As a last resort, people are consuming brackish water from agricultural wells, which raises serious concerns about the spread of water-borne diseases,” OCHA experts said.
Recall, earlier the representative of the UNICEF office in the Middle East Salim Oweis said that the displacement of one million people from one part of the Gaza Strip to another could cause a humanitarian disaster.
