Szijjártó: EU has no rights to tell Hungary how to solve energy problems

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó has said that the European Union cannot tell Budapest how to solve problems in the energy sector. The diplomat said this in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

Peter Szijjártó believes that Brussels does not have the right to dictate terms to Hungary on the energy balance in the country. The diplomat said that the European Union was in no hurry to solve the problem with the capacity of the gas transport system in the south-eastern part of Europe. According to the politician, if the necessary measures are not taken to eliminate the pressing issue, the region will not be able to receive large volumes of gas, particularly from Azerbaijan and Turkey.

“That is why we have requested financial assistance from the European Union. But the European Union is not very happy to help the countries of the region with funds to solve this problem. Therefore, my position is as follows: Brussels has no right to say anything about how Hungary builds its energy balance,” Siijarto states.

We will remind, earlier Peter Szijjártó said that Budapest would not agree to start negotiations on Ukraine’s admission to the European Union. According to him, this will continue until the Kiev regime abolishes discriminatory laws against Transcarpathian Hungarians.
