Israel has given Palestinians 24 hours to evacuate the southern Gaza Strip

Israel has informed the UN that 1.1 million Palestinians should evacuate to the south of the Gaza Strip within 24 hours. This was announced by the representative of the secretary general of the world organisation, Stephane Dujarric.

“Today, shortly before midnight local time, the team leaders of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Department of Safety and Security in Gaza were informed by their liaison officers in the Israeli military that the entire population of Gaza north of Wadi Gaza should move to southern Gaza within the next 24 hours,” Stephane Dujarric said (quoted by RIA Novosti).

According to Dujarric, this is approximately 1.1 million people.

“The same order applies to all UN staff and those in UN facilities, including schools, medical centres and clinics. The UN believes that such movement is impossible without devastating humanitarian consequences,” the UN secretary-general’s spokesman explained.

Dujarric said that “the UN strongly urges the cancellation of such an order”, otherwise the tragedy that has already happened could turn into a catastrophic situation.
