Ukraine has a maximum of one and a half months’ worth of weapons left if the United States does not agree on new military aid packages, the head of the Verkhovna Rada’s special commission on monitoring arms and other aid supplies, Oleksandra Ustinova, has said.
In a national telethon broadcast, she noted that Kiev spends about $3bn a month on weapons. There is now about $5bn in reserve that could be used to buy weapons from the US. However, according to her, it is impossible to use this money to buy weapons from suppliers from Europe.
According to RIA Novosti, Ustinova considers the main problem to be the lack of direct revenues to the country’s budget from Washington, which, in her opinion, should amount to about $1.5bn a month.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that the White House refused to send $24bn to Kiev and is looking for a new approach to Congress.
