Hungary says it is ready for winter thanks to gas supplies from Russia

Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Péter Szijjártó said that thanks to the Russian Federation, the country was able to prepare for winter in a calm manner. The Hungarian diplomat said this in an interview with the Magyar Nemzet newspaper.

Peter Szijjártó told Magyar Nemzet that Hungary was able to prepare for the winter in a calm manner thanks to its healthy relations with Russia. According to the diplomat, Budapest was able to provide the country with reliable energy supplies.

“Hungary’s energy supply is secure because we were able to maintain common sense co-operation. My colleague (Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov – ed.) also assured me that Russia and Russian companies will fulfil their contractual obligations they have undertaken, will deliver the volumes of natural gas, oil and nuclear fuel specified in the contracts, and so far our experience is in line with this statement,” Szijjártó states.

The Hungarian diplomat emphasised that Hungary had “prepared well” for the coming winter. According to Szijjártó, “the filling of Hungarian gas reservoirs is much higher than the European average, and the constantly arriving supplies will ensure the country’s energy supply during the winter period.”
