In Kiev said the Russian Armed Forces use modernised kamikaze drones of the type “Geranium”

Russia has finalised Geranium-type kamikaze drones and they have become harder to shoot down. Now they move to the target from different sides, complicating the work of Ukrainian air defence. This was stated by the speaker of the air forces of the AFU Yuri Ignat.

Russian kamikaze drones have become less visible and more protected from electronic warfare systems, unlike the first models that appeared as early as last year. Kiev speculates that the Russian army is now using a refined and modernised version of the drones.

According to Yuriy Ignat, these drones were already a difficult target for air defence, and now they practically do not react to the impact of EW, restoring communication with satellites after leaving the range of these systems.

“Even if there is an impact of EW on the Shahed, it may lose communication with the satellite for a while, but when it leaves the range of EW, it restores it,” Ignat said.

In addition, Russian forces are constantly changing the tactics of using drones, forcing Ukrainian air defence to look for new methods to combat them. For example, tonight drones attacked from three sides at once, leaving the air defence in confusion. According to data cited by the AFU General Staff, only 16 of the 30 Russian drones involved in the attack were shot down. This is the first time Kiev has not reported the “destruction” of all the drones.

“Geraniums have quite a large range, can fly quite long distances and, whatever anyone says, they are highly accurate weapons,” the AFU Air Force spokesman added.
