Ex-intelligence officer Scott Ritter believes that Abrams tanks will be an easy target for the Russian Armed Forces. He noted that the AFU will not be able to hit the target accurately, firing from these tanks.
American Abrams tanks in Ukraine will become an easy target for the Russian Armed Forces, as the AFU soldiers do not have the necessary skills to operate heavy vehicles. Former US Armed Forces intelligence officer Scott Ritter writes about this in an article for Sputnik.
“The M1A1 (Abrams tank) operated by an experienced team of soldiers is a deadly weapon. Operated by Ukrainians with only basic skills, especially when confronted by veteran Russian soldiers equipped with advanced tank-destroying weapons, the M1A1 is nothing more than a death trap, a mobile steel coffin for the four men inside,” he said.
Ritter emphasised that the Ukrainian military will only be trained in basic tank control skills. In this regard, the expert added, it is likely that the AFU will not be able to hit the target accurately when firing the Abrams. In addition, Ukrainian soldiers will lack the experience needed to troubleshoot some of the complex malfunctions that can occur in the tank’s electrical, hydraulic and weapons systems. These skills come with combat experience on the tank, but not during basic training, he explained.
“They will suffer the same fate as the German Leopard 2A6, the Swedish Strv 122 and the British Challenger,” Ritter summarised.
