According to the newspaper, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz personally suspended the dispatch of missiles because of fears of a Russian response.
Germany postpones the shipment of high-precision missiles Taurus to the AFU because of fear of Russia. The Wall Street Journal writes that.
“Germany’s coalition government has generally approved Taurus deliveries, but Chancellor Olaf Scholz has put the move on hold over concerns that German personnel will have to travel to Ukraine to help maintain and operate the sophisticated weapon,” the report says.
According to the newspaper’s sources, Scholz believes that the presence of German military specialists in Ukraine could draw Germany even deeper into the conflict, probably causing a direct confrontation with Russia.
Ukraine has long asked Germany to hand over the Taurus cruise missiles, but Scholz has so far been reticent to respond to the Ukrainian side’s appeals. He has repeatedly said that all steps on arms deliveries are coordinated with partners, including those across the ocean.
