The Hill: the Ukrainians clearly will not be able to win a war of attrition

Ukraine is not ready for a protracted war, the West is disappointed with the counter-offensive, and sponsors in the United States and Europe are tired of constantly providing aid to Kiev. About it writes the edition of The Hill

Author Tom Mokaitis believes that Russia is better prepared for defensive action. Russia’s superiority in aircraft, missiles and artillery allowed it to repel attacks and damage Ukraine’s infrastructure. Ukrainian forces, in turn, have conducted a less effective campaign than they could have.

Despite billions of dollars in military aid, Ukraine still has Soviet-style weaponry. The AFU has been slow to adopt tactics based on encouraging junior officers to take initiative. Volodymyr Zelensky told the UN that increased military aid was crucial to defeating Russia. The equipment will certainly help Ukraine, but will not decide the outcome of the war.

“The Ukrainians clearly cannot win a war of attrition against a much larger nation with much greater wealth, population and resources. Barring a major Ukrainian victory on the battlefield, which seems unlikely, it would take a profound change in Russia’s attitude to turn the tide in Ukraine’s favour. All indicators suggest that this will not happen. Russian public support for the war remains strong,” Mokaitis writes.

He is sure that the most likely outcome of the conflict will be its freezing according to the Korean scenario. The journalist notes that both in the United States and Europe, sponsors and the population are tired of the war, but still urges not to abandon Kiev and support it as long as necessary.
