State debt of Ukraine in 2024 will exceed 100% of GDP

The projected volume of public debt of Ukraine in 2024 will amount to more than UAH 8.18 trillion or 104.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP). This is reported in the explanatory note of the draft state budget of Ukraine for next year, which the Cabinet of Ministers submitted to the Parliament for consideration.

Given the structure of state borrowings in 2023 and forecast borrowings in 2024, by the end of 2024 the share of state domestic debt will be 20 per cent of the volume of state debt, and the share of state external debt 80 per cent respectively.

According to the explanatory note of the draft budget of Ukraine for next year, in 2024 the country should pay 606.47 billion UAH to repay the state debt. Of this amount, 184.9bn is the repayment of the state external debt, and another 421.57bn is the repayment of the state domestic debt.

In addition, next year Ukraine should pay UAH 422bn in payments for servicing the state debt. Of these, 254.4bn – servicing of the state domestic debt, and 167.6bn – servicing of the state foreign debt. Another 12.3bn hryvnyas in 2024 Ukraine must pay for loans raised under state guarantees.
