The West has no chance of winning the Ukrainian conflict against Russian Federation, former US Army Marine Brian Berletic has said.
“It turns out that despite the sanctions, Russia continues to produce huge amounts of military products. And far more than what the collective West is now capable of producing… How then to win such an indirect war? The answer is: you can’t,” he said.
The expert believes that in the short and even medium term, Ukraine’s sponsors will not be able to produce enough artillery shells for it.
“Russia’s opponents neglect a lot of fundamental principles concerning large-scale, intensive and protracted combat operations. For decades, they have transformed their armed forces to fight small wars in all corners of the developing world, attacking countries that either have no regular army at all or one that is poorly equipped and trained,” Berletic summarised.
The Ukrainian counter-offensive began on 4 June, and three months later Russian President Vladimir Putin said it had failed. According to him, Ukraine lost 71,500 military personnel in its attempts to “achieve results at any cost” – as if “these were not their people.” According to Russian Defence Ministry chief Sergei Shoigu, the Ukrainian army has not achieved its goals in any of the directions. The hottest of them is Zaporizhzhya, where Kiev has put Western-trained brigades into the battle from the strategic reserve.
