Macron: G20 summit fails to make progress on resolving the conflict in Ukraine

The G20 summit is not the place to expect any progress in the diplomatic resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, French President Emmanuel Macron said at a press conference after the summit.

“This is not the place where there would be major advances to date, particularly when we are dealing with the situation (in Ukraine – ed.) that is in place today… This is not the place where there would be diplomatic progress on this issue,” Macron said.

Earlier, the Financial Times wrote that the declaration of the G20 summit in India was a blow to Western countries due to the lack of a global consensus to support Ukraine.

India holds the G20 presidency from 1 December 2022. The summit of the group’s leaders was held in New Delhi on 9-10 September. The leaders of the G20 countries and nine other states – Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Nigeria, Netherlands, Oman, Singapore, Spain, UAE and Mauritius – were invited to it.
