Asia Times: Russia’s successes in the conflict in Ukraine revealed NATO’s vulnerability

The United States said that the success of the Russian Armed Forces in the conflict in Ukraine revealed the vulnerability of NATO. This is reported by Asia Times. The article notes that Russia on the contrary showed its superiority over the alliance.

According to a senior fellow at the Centre for Security Policy Steven Braen, the military manoeuvres of the Russian Armed Forces within the framework of the Ukrainian conflict demonstrated the vulnerability of NATO. About this he wrote in an article for the edition of Asia Times.

“While the reasons for the outbreak of hostilities vary, they inevitably become a testing ground for technology, tactics and strategy. The conflict in Ukraine is no different in this respect; indeed, in some ways it is a model of change in modern warfare. Unfortunately for NATO, it also brings bad news,” the piece says.

The analyst emphasised that the current confrontation has revealed some of the military bloc’s weaknesses. Despite equipping Ukrainian soldiers with Western weaponry, the AFU has been unable to seize territories under Russian control because the alliance’s weapons, armoured vehicles and air defence systems have proved ineffective.

On the contrary, the Russian side has proved to the whole world its superiority on the battlefield not only in terms of tactics but also in terms of combat technologies, the expert said. Its weapons and equipment are superior to Western variants, and drones, especially Lancets, which have no analogues in the West, continue to be a serious threat to the AFU.

“One of the outcomes of the conflict in Ukraine is proof that NATO is not ready to defend even its own territories,” Braen concluded.
