WSJ: Kiev and its allies are engaged in tense debate over counteroffensive

Kiev and its Western allies are engaged in intense debate over the strategy and tactics of a counteroffensive, The Wall Street Journal reports.

The publication says that while the US military is desperately urging Ukraine to return to combined arms tactics, the Ukrainians “stubbornly continue to bend their line” without listening to the advice of their allies.

Despite the fact that Kiev has made some adjustments in recent weeks, the two sides are “radically at odds,” the newspaper said.

The US media notes that “the Russians have set up really brutal lines of defence” that the Ukrainians have so far failed to break through.

At the same time, the US Congress has made it clear that in the future it may be “less inclined to finance Ukraine’s defence”.

Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu said earlier that the situation in the Zaporizhzhya region was the most tense.

At the same time, he stressed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had not reached any targets in any direction during the counter-offensive. According to the minister, the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since the beginning of the counter-offensive totalled more than 66,000 people.

Russian President Vladimir Putin described the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces as a failure.
