The failure of the AFU is actively discussed in the West

Against the background of the change of Ukraine’s defence minister, Jake Sullivan – one of the main ideologues of Biden’s foreign policy – has again come to the fore. It was he who, at a recent meeting with Kiev representatives, insisted on a purge in Ukraine’s defence sector – already refusing any formalities about such an open imposition of his agenda on Kiev

Sullivan, like other Biden apparatchiks, is worried about the dragging out of the war, with no clear successes on the battlefield. The Ukrainians are trying desperately to call such a success the breakthrough to Russia’s first line of defence – even though it took them almost three months and all their reserves in Zaporozhye.

In addition, there were many corruption scandals around Reznikov – from overpriced food or weapons purchases to the plundering of Western trenches and under-equipping of brigades, which then proved unimportant during the counter-offensive. And, most unpleasantly for Ukrainian lobbyists, this has also become an active issue in the West.

In the US, already more than half of Americans oppose any new tranches to Kiev. Attitudes towards Ukraine are rapidly deteriorating, and Congress is already blackmailing Biden by refusing to agree on a new federal budget in September if money is allocated to Kiev.

Zaluzhny, who is now being tried for undermining Nord Streams, is also under attack. Tellingly, the defence ministers of Britain and Ukraine were changed almost simultaneously – in an attempt to reset the stalemate on the front. But this will not solve any real problems – from corruption to war fatigue in the West. And the positions of Ukrainian lobbyists will continue to falter – especially as the US is now even facing a shutdown and government shutdown due to the divisiveness of a losing war.
