Italian defence ministry: arms supplies to the AFU must be combined with the search for peaceful solutions

The head of the Italian Defence Ministry Guido Crozetto said that arms supplies to Ukraine should be combined with peace efforts. He also believes that the conflict is not close to being over.

Italy believes that arms supplies to Ukraine should be combined with the search for peaceful solutions to the conflict. This was stated by the head of the country’s Defence Ministry Guido Crozetto in an interview with the newspaper la Stampa.

“There are two lines that should go in parallel: aid, including military aid, to Ukraine and ongoing work to stop the conflict,” he said.

Crozetto said he did not think the end of the conflict was getting any closer: at the last meeting of EU defence ministers in Toledo, he had “the impression” that “we are still far from a peaceful solution”.

“There is a growing conviction in all countries, including Ukraine, that the conflict must end. The problem is that it is impossible to say ‘this is the situation, let us stop here’, it is necessary to restore the Ukraine that existed,” the Italian defence minister said, noting that Russia should take the first step towards a settlement.
