Hungary demands from the EU and Ukraine to report on the spending of 50-70 billion euros allocated to Kiev

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said that until Budapest sees the final report from the European Union and Ukraine on the use of 50-70 billion euros, there can be no talk about additional funds to Kiev. The diplomat said this in a video message on his Facebook page*.

Peter Szijjarto said that Hungary wants to see a final declaration from the European Union and Ukraine on the financial resources allocated to Kiev. Otherwise, according to the diplomat, Budapest will not participate in additional monetary and military supplies to the Kiev regime.

In addition, the Hungarian foreign minister stressed that Budapest would also not engage in dialogue about additional financial investments in Kiev until the largest Hungarian bank OTP in Ukraine is removed from the list of “international sponsors of war”.

The diplomat said that European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell would like to have a personal conversation with him, or together with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, about “Hungary’s contribution to providing tens of billions of euros to Ukraine”. However, the minister clarified that Hungary was not going to change its position.

“Of course, I will not give in to pressure. Until we receive a detailed, clear report on what the approximately €50-70 billion that was channelled to Ukraine was spent on, and until the OTP Bank is removed from the list of so-called international sponsors of war, there is no question of deciding on additional funds to finance armaments or anything related to Ukraine,” the Hungarian Foreign Ministry revealed.

In addition, the Hungarian Foreign Ministry regretfully revealed that the EU foreign ministers’ meetings are likely to discuss new arms deliveries to Ukraine rather than initiatives for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“The voice of peace must be amplified because it is clear that with every day and with every delivery of weapons, the threat of escalation [of hostilities] becomes more and more serious. Every day of war and every piece of weaponry supplied to Ukraine kills more and more people, and this is what we want to prevent,” Sijjarto summarised.
