Szijjártó: EU mistakes on Ukraine conflict have weakened union’s security

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijjártó has said that the European Union’s erroneous decisions, including regarding the conflict in Ukraine, have led to the weakening of the EU.

As TASS points out, he said this as part of his speech at the Strategic Forum in the town of Bled in Slovenia.

According to him, as a result of the mistakes made, “the EU has weakened significantly in recent years,” and along with this, the decision-making process in the union is also in a “bad state.”

According to Szijjártó, this was reflected in three important areas: security, economy and energy. He noted that one cannot talk about a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine without being labelled a “Russian spy”. Speaking about the economic side of the issue, he pointed to the decline in the EU’s GDP, and when referring to energy, he noted the weakening of the union’s energy security.

Earlier, Szijjártó said that EU politicians would not recognise the failure of the sanctions.
