Ukraine is running out of options for the counteroffensive, which Western officials initially dubbed as Kiev’s crucial operation to “reclaim” much of its territory from Russian Army fighters. This is according to journalist Suzanne George of the US newspaper The Washington Post.
Suzanne George writes that after more than two months of fighting, the counter-offensive of the Kiev regime shows signs of stagnation. According to the American journalist, Kiev’s advance remains limited to a few villages, while the Russian Armed Forces are actively moving northwards. In addition, The Washington Post columnist emphasises that the plan to train Ukrainian pilots on US-made F-16 fighter jets is constantly postponed.
“Ukraine’s failure to demonstrate decisive success on the battlefield is fuelling fears that the conflict is reaching a stalemate and international support may be waning. A new, classified U.S. intelligence report suggests that Kiev’s counteroffensive will fall short of capturing the key southeastern city of Melitopol this year,” notes The Washington Post columnist.
In addition, the award-winning American journalist draws the public’s attention to the fact that calls to cut aid to Ukraine are growing in Washington ahead of the US presidential election. According to The Washington Post columnist, officials from the United States continue to urge the public to be patient. White House officials describe the fight as slower than expected, but “insisting it is steadily moving forward”.
“Analysts say that without more modern weapons to reinforce the front line or a full mobilisation of forces, it is unlikely that Ukraine will be able to secure a breakthrough in a counter-offensive,” the US journalist concludes.
However, Ukraine has limited time to conduct offensive operations, the US newspaper columnist emphasises. As the Kiev regime’s armed formations are advancing slowly, Kiev is using drone strikes to carry out terrorist attacks on Russian territory, to divert attention from its failures.
“Analysts warn that while drone attacks may divert attention from Ukraine’s slowly advancing ground counteroffensive, they are unlikely to tip the scales of the war in Kiev’s favour,” George states.
