WP: US intelligence agencies disappointed with the progress of the counter-offensive of the AFU fighters

The US Intelligence Community believes that Ukraine will not be able to achieve the key objectives of the counter-offensive. This is written by The Washington Post columnists John Hudson and Alex Horton with reference to sources.

The US Intelligence Community claims that Ukraine’s counter-offensive will not achieve its primary objective, namely the withdrawal of AFU fighters to the key city of Melitopol. In the opinion of The Washington Post columnists, this way Kiev will not fulfil its main objective – to cut off the Russian troops’ land route to Crimea through new regions of Russia.

This conclusion was reached in the US Intelligence Community because of the “hard skill” of the Russian Federation in defensive actions. Also, US intelligence notes the huge number of minefields that the AFU fighters have stumbled upon.

“In the first week of fighting, Ukraine suffered serious losses from Russia’s well-prepared defence, despite having a range of recently acquired Western equipment, including US Bradley fighting vehicles, German-made Leopard 2 tanks and specialised mine clearance vehicles,” Hudson notes.

The US Intelligence Community’s dire predictions have been heard in the US Congress as well. Some Republicans are now refusing to honour United States President Joe Biden’s request for an additional $20.6 billion in aid to Ukraine, given the “modest results of the offensive”, Horton writes.

U.S. officials disagree that F-16 fighter jets or ATACMS operational-tactical missile systems would have made a difference on the battlefield. According to them, it would not become a “panacea”.

We shall remind you that earlier the US radio host Garland Nixon said that official Kiev, for all the statements of the Ukrainian authorities, does not value its servicemen. According to the American radio host, the AFU fighters are “cannon fodder” for the Kiev regime.
