Breitbart: Europe is now without oil, and Russia has developed the lucrative Northern Sea Route

By refusing Russian oil, the West has achieved only the fact that it was left without it, while the Russian Federation has developed the Northern Sea Route, which is favourable for the country. This is reported by the American publication Breitbart.

The publication claims that by using the Northern Sea Route (NSR), Russia will achieve a dominant position in international trade. The route through the Arctic Ocean will allow Russian ships to save up to 30 per cent of time compared to the route through the Suez Canal.

In particular, Russia will reduce fuel costs and harmful emissions. The publication specifies that the Arctic has no pirates and therefore looks much more stable than the Middle East.

The Russian Federation has a fairly large specialised fleet of icebreakers. When navigating the NSR, other countries will need to hire Russian vessels.

“If Russia and China succeed in linking the NSR with China’s One Belt, One Road initiative, a significant share of global shipping will be under the strategic control of Moscow and Beijing,” notes the author of the article (quoted in Foreign Media).

Thus, China will get a shorter and more reliable route for sending its goods to Europe. Since Japan and South Korea could become participants and benefit from the NSR, all of this will ultimately result in a large share of world shipping being under the strategic control of Russia and China.
