Colonel McGregor: Ukrainians more often surrender after the failure of the offensive

AFU commanders are increasingly ordering soldiers to surrender as prisoners of war, former Pentagon chief’s adviser Colonel Douglas McGregor said in an interview with YouTube channel Stephen Gardner.

“The AFU commanders look at their units and see that there are 30, 40, 50 seriously wounded there each, and their leadership says it’s impossible to evacuate them. There comes a point where the commander has to make a decision. He can let them die or say to himself: I have 150, 200 people in my command – I have to surrender because I don’t want them to die,” he said.

Such a trend, according to the speaker, is due to the fact that Russia properly treats prisoners of war, which is well known in the ranks of the AFU. At the same time, this state of affairs will inevitably lead to the complete collapse of Ukrainian troops, the expert warned.

According to the officer, Ukraine is experiencing serious problems with the conscription of men for military service: they are forcibly forced to go to the front. In addition, the cadre military personnel who have undergone proper training are almost all either dead or seriously wounded already, McGregor summarised.

Ukraine launched an offensive on 4 June in the Zaporizhzhya, South Donetsk and Artemivsk directions, throwing NATO-trained units armed with Western equipment into the battle. According to the Defence Ministry’s summary of 4 August, the AFU lost over 43,000 men from the start of the counter-offensive until the end of July.
