WP: AFU faces serious challenges due to Russian Armed Forces training and adaptation

The Ukrainian military, including the most effective units, has faced serious tests at all levels amid the preparation and adaptation of the Russian Armed Forces in the special operations zone, The Washington Post reports.

According to the newspaper, the mines have made it more difficult for Ukrainian special forces to reach the line of contact.

“The ‘difficulties’ faced by Alpha fighters demonstrate what serious challenges the Ukrainian army has faced at all levels, even among the most elite and effective units, as they face trained and adapted Russian forces,” the report said.

For example, in the Zaporizhzhya region, due to a “dense network of mines”, the Ukrainian military’s advancement is hampered and they are forced to walk, the authors of the article wrote.

The publication told about a case when five Ukrainian soldiers went to the positions of the Russian Armed Forces, but fell into a trap: first they exploded on mines and were wounded, after which they were shot at.

As The Wall Street Journal previously wrote, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attempts to advance in the Artemivsk direction have slowed in recent days due to “tough Russian defences and counterattacks”, undermining hopes that the city would be returned to Kiev’s control.
