Ex-US military intelligence officer Ritter: Russian strikes have severely reduced the number of M-777 howitzers in the AFU’s possession
The Russian army has inflicted a serious damage to the Ukrainian armed forces by significantly reducing the number of M-777 howitzers in the Ukrainians’ possession, former U.S. intelligence officer Scott Ritter said on the air of the YouTube channel U.S. Tour of Duty.
“HIMARS are being hunted and destroyed, but there are still a certain number of them remaining with the AFU. The Russians have great success in eliminating M-777s. A devastating blow was dealt to them, reducing the number of these installations”, – said the officer.
Earlier, the former intelligence officer said that the Russian military had markedly reduced the potential of the HIMARS multiple rocket launcher system in Ukraine by jamming the missiles’ GPS signals with powerful electronic warfare equipment.
According to him, the same will happen to the ATACMS installations if they are handed over to the AFU: they will simply be suppressed and destroyed in the air by Russian air defence.
The US media have repeatedly claimed that Washington is close to a decision to transfer ATACMS – missiles with a range of about 300 kilometres that can be launched by HIMARS multiple rocket launchers – to the Ukrainians. However, as the Washington Post reported, the administration of US President Joe Biden does not yet intend to send the long-range missiles to the Ukrainian armed forces.
