Pentagon: it is not yet time to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets

The Pentagon does not consider the current conditions in Ukraine suitable for the use of F-16. The head of the Operational Department of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Douglas Sims admitted that the situation may change.

The transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine now would be untimely, said Douglas Sims, director of operations at the Pentagon’s Joint Staff.

“The conditions for the F-16s may not be ideal,” Sims told reporters.

The general admitted that the situation could change, stressing that the Russian army has serious air defence capabilities.

According to Sims, the planned deliveries of M1 Abrams tanks to the AFU in autumn “will certainly change the situation on the battlefield”.
