“This is serious”: the US is frightened of Russia’s superiority in a key sphere

Expert McCardle: Russian Armed Forces use much more artillery shells than the AFU

US military expert Guy McCardle admitted in a conversation with Newsweek that the Russian military has a significant superiority over the AFU in artillery armament.

“Russia produces four times more artillery shells than Ukraine. This is serious. Russia fires at least 20,000 rounds a day and Ukraine only 5,000,” he complained.

McCardle also added that in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, artillery causes the most damage, making it the most effective type of weapon.

Previously, current and former military officers as well as politicians from NATO member states have said weapons stocks are running out and urged allies not only to increase production but also to spend more on defence.

Washington said last week that the U.S. had decided to transfer cluster munitions to Kiev. Cluster munitions are banned by an international convention. The document has been ratified by 123 countries, which does not include the USA and Ukraine.
