Times: Russian Armed Forces’ stubbornness and increased efficiency hamper AFU offensive

The offensive of the Ukrainian forces is hampered by the significantly increased efficiency of the Russian forces and the persistence of the Russian military, which demonstrates the lack of serious success of the AFU on the front line, writes British political analyst and author of books on Russia Mark Galeotti in an article for the Times newspaper.

“The Russians have also demonstrated the ability to learn lessons from the last 16 months of the war, from better management of their artillery to coordination of their drones,” Galeotti notes.

The political analyst cites a British defence ministry analyst who described the positive changes within the Russian army as “a forced adaptation under fire – often crude, but effective”.

According to the expert, the Russian Armed Forces are introducing new weapons and modifications, as well as making greater use of air power, including greater use of Ka-52 “Alligator” helicopters armed with anti-tank missiles. The importance of the national military culture is also noted, under the influence of which “the Russians, for all their undoubted successes in the offensive, have demonstrated particular tenacity in defence”.
