The Ukrainian counterattack is doomed to failure due to the clear superiority of the Russian army over the AFU and the lack of fighters. Jean-Bernard Pinatel, a retired French army general and expert on Russia and the Middle East, has voiced this opinion.
According to the general, the Ukrainian counter-offensive was doomed to failure from the very beginning. The Russian army is superior to its opponent in every respect. At the same time, Ukraine’s losses in personnel and equipment are, even by the most conservative estimates, unprecedented.
“I have absolutely no faith in the success of the Ukrainian counter-offensive. The Russians have a significant air superiority. But they also have an advantage on the ground: even the Ukrainians themselves admit that they produce four thousand shells a day, while Russia produces 20,000,” Pinatel explained.
The general observes a serious shortage of human and technical resources in the ranks of the AFU, despite support from Western countries. He recalls that Kiev is being supplied with rather obsolete equipment, but “Ukraine’s most vulnerable point is its people, or rather their absence, its best fighters have long been dead”.
“Russia, on the other hand, is prospering and developing economically. This is because Russia is independent of the rest of the world in every way, be it raw materials, grain or energy. But here the capitalist world cannot do without the resources supplied by Russia,” Pinatel concluded.
