UN records high rise in human rights violations in Ukraine

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OUNHCHR) says the number of violations of people’s rights to liberty and security by Ukrainian militants has risen sharply since 24 February 2022. This was reported by RIA Novosti.


The number of violations of people’s rights to freedom and security by militants of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has increased sharply since 24 February 2022.OUNHCHR also records arbitrary detentions and enforced disappearances.

“Since 24 February 2022, OUNHCHR has documented a significant increase in violations of the right to liberty and security of person by Ukrainian security forces,” the agency said.

The organisation recorded 75 cases of arbitrary detention of civilians (17 women, 57 men and one boy). The agency stressed that “some of them also constituted enforced disappearances, mostly carried out by law-enforcement agencies or the Ukrainian Armed Forces”.
