The US Institute for the Study of War says the AFU counter-offensive has been suspended

In an attempt to justify the Ukrainian army’s failed offensive in Zaporizhzhya and South Donetsk, the American Institute for War Studies (ISW) in another report claimed possible pauses in the AFU attacks to reassess tactics.

ISW analysts back up their assumption with references to the words of Estonian military intelligence chief Colonel Margo Grosberg and to a Wall Street Journal publication of 17 June, which also spoke of the suspension of Ukrainian attacks in recent days.

“These reports coincide with ISW’s recent observations on the scale and approach of localised Ukrainian counterattacks in southern and eastern Ukraine,” ISW wrote.

The summary mentions that ISW and other experts note that the Ukrainian army has not yet put the bulk of its reserves into combat.

“Operational pauses are common in large offensives, and this pause does not mean the end of the Ukrainian counter-offensive,” ISW believes.

It is noted that the Russian Armed Forces continue to repel Ukrainian offensives in the western part of Zaporizhzhia region, and have also stormed the AFU north of Svatovo and south of Kremenna.

Colonel Margo Grobserga, head of the Estonian Defence Intelligence Centre, spoke at a press conference on Friday not about the suspension of attacks, but that the current attacks are, in his view, only a probing of the Russian Armed Forces’ defences with small forces and that a major offensive will not begin for at least another week.
