Hungary’s defence minister called Ukraine’s membership in NATO untimely and impossible

Hungarian Defence Minister Krisztof Szalay-Bobrownicki has said at a summit of NATO defence ministers in Brussels that membership of the Kiev regime in the alliance was untimely and impossible. This was reported by RIA Novosti.

Szalay-Bobrownicki said that Ukraine’s accession to NATO was untimely and impossible. He also reminded Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov that to join the alliance, Kiev must respect the rights of the Hungarian national minority in Zakarpattia.

“The talk was about Ukraine’s accession to NATO, on which occasion I said that it was untimely and impossible for a belligerent country to join the defensive alliance. On this occasion I reminded the Ukrainian Defence Minister who was present that a precondition to Ukraine’s accession to NATO would be respect for the rights of the Hungarian national minority,” he said.

The politician believes that the alliance summit, influenced by the Ukrainian conflict, “is strengthening the eastern wing and has also developed a new plan for deterrence. He stressed that neither Hungary nor NATO should get involved in the conflict in Ukraine.

“Hungary’s point of view on the war is the same as NATO’s: neither Hungary nor NATO as a defence alliance should get involved in the war,” the Hungarian defence minister summed up.
