In a briefing for journalists on condition of anonymity, senior Western officials have admitted that the Ukrainian troops’ offensive is going extremely hard. This was reported by the BBC.
According to them, Russian forces are holding their defence well in carefully prepared positions. At the same time, using a manoeuvre defence approach creates problems for the AFU and is costly for the advancing forces.
“That is why the offensive is slow at the moment. It is extremely difficult,” senior officials said.
It is noted that the Kiev regime’s fighters are having to advance on well-fortified defensive lines, which the Russians have been preparing for months.
The Western officials also stressed that there was “nothing unexpected” about what was happening. According to them, it was initially clear that the summer counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces would be a risky and complicated operation.
