France’s 14th day of protests against pension reform has led to violent clashes in Paris
According to the General Confederation of Labour (GCL) of France, more than 900 thousand people took part in the events against the reform all over the country, one third of them in Paris. French Interior Ministry figures are much lower – 281,000 people, Franceinfo reports.
Radical protesters burned cars, threw stones and clashed with police. Police used batons and used tear gas.
A total of 17 people were arrested and one police officer was injured, according to the Paris police department.
The rallies come two days before a bill by a group of independent MPs and representatives of France’s overseas territories to repeal the reform is to be voted on in the National Assembly (the lower house of parliament).
