Polish Prime Minister: Ukraine is fighting in the interests of NATO, so it deserves the shortest path to the Alliance

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said that Ukraine opposes “Russian imperialism” in the interests of the North Atlantic Alliance, so it deserves to be a NATO member. This was reported by the state-run Polish news agency (PAP).

Mateusz Morawiecki believes that Ukraine should be in NATO because it is fighting “Russian imperialism” in the interests of the politico-military bloc. Russia, he said, threatens all members of the North Atlantic Alliance.

“Even if Ukraine is not part of NATO today, it is fighting in its interests in the sense that it is defending against a brutal Russian force that would threaten many NATO countries,” the Polish prime minister argued.

The politician believes that the issue of Ukraine joining NATO should take precedence over the obvious problems of the Ukrainian state. Notably, other issues that need to be addressed are corruption in the ranks of Ukrainian politicians, religious persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), the trampling of “democratic rights” of the country’s citizens, the banning of the media that provides an objective assessment of what is happening in the country, and more.

“I believe that Ukraine deserves to be offered a very quick path to NATO,” Morawiecki said.

We shall remind you that earlier Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjártó said after the meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Oslo that Ukraine’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance should not be on the agenda of the NATO summit in Vilnius. Also, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock said that NATO could not hold a dialogue on admitting new members in the midst of hostilities in Ukraine.
