The Transnistria issue will not prevent Moldova from becoming a member of the European Union, EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrel said.
“Moldova’s movement (to the EU. – RT) does not depend on the events in Transnistria,” he was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
Borrel reminded that Cyprus became a member of the EU in the presence of “territorial problems”.
“Moldova can do it as well,” he concluded.
Earlier, EC head Ursula von der Leyen said the European Union had announced a new investment package for Moldova worth €1.6 billion.
Von der Leyen also said that the European Union authorities would significantly expand the size of the EU mission to Chisinau in order to strengthen reforms in Moldova and create new managerial personnel in the republic.
