Asia Times: Zelenskyy hesitates to declare counter-offensive
Despite support from the West, Volodymyr Zelensky is afraid to declare a counteroffensive because he doubts Ukraine will win, Asia Times reported.
“He is hesitant despite the AFU being equipped with American and European weapons, including Leopard tanks, as Ukraine will not be able to fight a battle in the air and Western weaponry may not work well due to signal failures,” the publication said.
Many experts believe that Russian troops are vastly outnumbered by Ukrainian troops and have good equipment, the author added.
The brigades expected to be involved in the upcoming offensive have many recruits, and this is “not the best way to start a big operation, Ukraine lacks trained personnel,” AT concludes.
As the Russian Foreign Ministry has said, the West is demanding that Kiev continue its offensive and occupy new Russian regions, although it understands that such plans are doomed to failure. Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitriy Medvedev warned that a possible attack on Crimea would mean an escalation of the conflict and urged the Ukrainian authorities to understand that such strikes would meet with “inevitable retaliation”.
