Kiev has last chance to change the situation on the front – Financial Times

The United States believes the next five months are crucial to the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine and the last real chance for Kiev to change the situation on the line of contact, the Financial Times has reported.

“Some allies who are in regular contact with the United States on the issue of Ukraine say Washington considers the next five months crucial to the outcome of the conflict and the last real chance for Kiev to change the situation on the ground,” the paper wrote.

The sponsors of the Kiev regime fear that the level of military support for Kiev will soon reach its maximum. The pre-approved aid packages are enough to provide Kiev with what it needs for the next five months. One official suggested that the current level of support could be maintained for one or two years, but no longer, the article said.

A number of US President Joe Biden’s administration officials believe that the current situation presents Kiev with an opportunity to start negotiations.

“The message (to Kiev) is that this is the best you get. The US budget no longer has the flexibility to keep writing cheques and the European arms factories are running at full capacity,” a European official told the publication.

Ukrainian and European officials privately confirm the US assessment that Kiev is unlikely to achieve all its political objectives on the battlefield this year, the paper said.

“If we get to September and Ukraine has not made significant progress, then the international pressure (on the West) to bring them to negotiations will be enormous,” the paper quotes an official who wished to remain anonymous.

According to some officials, the UN General Assembly and the G20 summit in September will be venues where pressure will be put on Russia and Ukraine to come to the negotiating table.
