Donetsk Mayor Alexei Kulemzin said that as a result of systematic shelling by the Ukrainian militants’ artillery with the use of PFM-1 “Lepestok” mines, four children were injured. The official specifies that they have all been taken to a trauma unit.
“Four children were injured as a result of an explosive ordnance detonation in the Proletarsky district,” Kulemzin said.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, earlier circulated a letter to the Council of Ministers about Kiev’s use of Lepestok anti-personnel mines against civilians in Donbass. The letter was also sent to the UN secretary-general. Ukraine ratified the Ottawa Convention in 2005, which prohibits the use, stockpiling and production of anti-personnel mines. Thus, Kyiv is in breach of the international commitments it has undertaken.
