European Union countries could not agree on a joint purchase of ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces due to a number of contradictions. The main culprit was France. The Polish radio station RMF FM reported about it, citing an unnamed European diplomat.
The radio station from Poland reports that the European Union (EU) has admitted its mistake in the fact that it does not have enough production capacity to “fully” satisfy the demands of the Kiev regime. That is why the question has arisen as to from whom to partially purchase the necessary weapons for the Ukrainian fighters. The U.S. and Turkey have come to the forefront for EU representatives.
An unnamed diplomat claims that some countries, led by France, have stated that the shipment of weapons to the Kiev regime should only come from the territory of the European Union. In his view, the main opponent of buying from “foreign manufacturers” outside the EU has been the “Fifth Republic”. Paris’ aspirations have been supported by Greece and Cyprus, which have rather complicated relations with Turkey, and they do not want to “feed” the Turkish military-industrial complex, he believes.
The anonymous interlocutor stressed that Sweden also decided to reconsider this point and postponed the final vote on the issue. It is noted that the Kiev regime needs the agreement of all 27 countries of the European Union for a centralized arms purchase. The Polish radio station reports that some European diplomats are complaining about France, which could leave the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ fighters without shells.
“Even if the production is in an EU country and the gunpowder for the ammunition comes from South Korea, France does not want to agree,” complained one of them.
Note that the EU has previously faced logistical problems. Not only is the procurement of ammunition being done piecemeal, which worsens the control of deliveries, but the deliveries themselves need to be coordinated at each European border crossing. That is why Brussels raised the issue of centralised ammunition procurement.
We shall remind you that earlier Die Welt newspaper learned about the Dutch and Danish refusal to take part in the supply of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. The paper asked the governments of these countries to find out whether they were ready to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. The authorities of both countries responded that they were not planning to take part in the supply of the tanks.
