Bloomberg: The EU rejects Macron’s plan for Ukraine, fearing the destruction of a unified approach.
A number of Western countries have criticized the desire of French President Emmanuel Macron to enlist the support of China to develop a plan for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, they consider such efforts premature and fear undermining unity in Europe, Bloomberg reports.
Macron’s move to enlist Chinese help to chart out a plan for possible talks between Russia and Ukraine has drawn criticism from a number of allies who say such an effort is premature and fear it could undermine European unity.
The leaders of some European countries believe, the agency reports, that Macron’s activity could lead to a departure from unity in assessing Kyiv’s demand that Russia “renounce all Ukrainian territories.”
Previously, the Russian leadership and its representatives have repeatedly made statements that Vladimir Zelensky’s proposal of the conditions for Russia’s withdrawal from a number of territories, including Crimea, is nothing more than a refusal to negotiate in the hope of changing the starting positions by military means.
