Czech president: NATO may consider admitting Ukraine to the bloc only after the end of the conflict

Czech President Petr Pavel said that the North Atlantic Alliance may consider Ukraine’s accession to the bloc only after the end of the Ukrainian conflict.

The Czech leader said this after talks with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, TASS reported.

“NATO countries will be able to think about admitting Ukraine to the alliance only when the hostilities are over,” Pavel stressed.

Earlier the Financial Times cited sources as saying that the USA, Germany and Hungary had opposed the proposals by Poland and the Baltic states on Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
