The report was published on the channel’s website on April 13. The material in English was published under the heading: “War in Ukraine: Russian troops are preparing for battle before the counteroffensive.”

“About 30 kilometers from the front line, in a secret place, Russian troops are preparing for battle. Most of the soldiers here are not professionals, they are drafted from Siberia. They have already been to the front, and now they are preparing to return there”, the plot of French journalists begins.

In the story, the Russian Armed Forces say that Russian tanks are superior to the Leopard and praise domestic weapons. One of the characters in the story also said that he “defends the history” of his country with honor. Another Russian mobilized noted that he “is not afraid of death”, but is afraid that his “children will be left without a father, and his wife without a husband.”

Another Russian soldier said he was not afraid of the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), which the journalist, citing his “hero”, called “enemy”.

“Everything breaks, everything is killed. There are no invincibles,” the Russian soldier said.

The reaction of the Ukrainian side was not long in coming. The speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Oleg Nikolenko, was indignant that French journalists were filming material in the “occupied territories” without the consent of Kyiv, which allegedly violates the country’s legislation. He threatened that the participants in such actions would be held accountable.

Then the Ukrainian ambassador to France joined in. Vadim Omelchenko called the report “a bad example of so-called neutral journalism.” He also did not like that one of the journalists, Nicholas Rushworth, speaking about the Armed Forces of Ukraine, used the phrase “enemy counteroffensive.” Omelchenko asked him which side he was on. When the video was taken down, the diplomat called it “encouraging” on his page.

The editors of France 24 did not officially comment on this situation.
