Borrell recalled that a year ago the EU first funded the delivery of lethal weapons to Ukraine.

European countries have also started to train Ukrainian soldiers on their territory since autumn 2022. By the end of this year, the EU intends to train about 30,000 Ukrainian military, Borrell added.

He said that since the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the EU “has shown that it knows what is at stake”.

“And that it is willing to break taboos when necessary,” Borrel asserted.

Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that EU countries were close to discussing sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine.
