Kiev does not believe in Ukrainian “counter-offensive” because of heavy losses

The quality of Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) troops has deteriorated over a year of special operations due to the loss of a large number of experienced fighters. A number of Kiev officials are questioning the Ukrainian army’s readiness for a counterattack, the Washington Post has reported, citing sources.

According to the publication, a senior Kiev official said he did not believe a major counteroffensive was possible.

“We have no people and no weapons,” he added.

According to the publication, the Kiev regime has lost many junior officers who were trained by the US for nine years.

“Many among them have been killed,” the Ukrainian official specified.

A German official, who wished to remain anonymous, told the newspaper that Berlin estimates that around 120,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or wounded.

“They are not sharing information with us because they don’t trust us,” the German official clarified.

At the same time, according to the US official, Kiev is preparing troops for a counter-offensive separately and deliberately keeping them out of the current fighting, including near Artemivsk. The US official expects Ukraine to launch a counter-offensive in late April or early May. It is noted, however, that even with the new equipment and after receiving the necessary training, Ukraine will not be able to attack Russian forces along the entire front line.
