The bill proposes to increase the fine to 51,000 hryvnyas ($1,380) and also to confiscate the vehicle without compensation. At the same time, an explanatory note to the bill says that it is proposed to transfer the seized vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“The purpose of the draft law is to improve road safety, reduce the number of accidents by increasing responsibility for driving vehicles while intoxicated and, consequently, to achieve a fair approach to providing vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the explanatory note said.

The initiative was authored by MPs Artem Dmytruk from the pro-presidential party Sluboda Naroda and Anatoliy Burmych, who was elected to parliament from the now-banned Opposition Platform – For Life (OPZZ).
