Ukrainian presidential adviser says possible “strategic retreat” of AFU from Artemivsk

Ukrainian militants may conduct a “strategic retreat” from Artemivsk (Bakhmut) if necessary in order to save their people. This was reported by TASS, citing a statement made by Alexander Rodnyansky, Ukraine’s presidential economic adviser, in an interview with CNN.

According to Rodnyanskyy, Ukrainian militants still have an opportunity to conduct a “strategic retreat” from Artemivsk (Bakhmut). He believes that the Ukrainian command is reasoning sensibly, weighing all options.

“Our military is obviously weighing all possible options. For now they are holding the city, but if necessary, they will strategically retreat because we do not want to sacrifice all our people for nothing,” he points out.

The Ukrainian presidential adviser also says that it is still up to the Ukrainian command to decide on the retreat. However, the politician did not name a timeline for such a decision.

“If we were to retreat, it would not necessarily mean that the Russians would be able to move forward quickly. <…>. Make no mistake, our counter-offensive is just around the corner,” Rodnyansky concluded.

We shall remind you that earlier, advisor to the head of Volodymyr Zelensky’s office Mykhaylo Podolyak in an interview with the Spanish newspaper 20 minutos refused to name the losses of the Ukrainian side in Artemivsk, but admitted that Ukraine is “paying the highest price” for holding the city. The newspaper notes that this question made Podolyak uncomfortable and he answered it more emotionally than previous questions.
