“We were finding out if people were alive” – residents of Makiivka told about the morning shelling of a residential area by Ukrainian militants

Early in the morning, residents of Makiivka’s Chervonogvardeyskiy district woke up not from an alarm clock, but from a Ukrainian military strike on a residential area. Kiev formations sent an American AGM-88 HARM missile to the civilians. According to locals, a powerful explosion caused windows to fly out of the apartment blocks.

“I was in bed at the time. Shrapnel fell on the bed and the carpet. I was not hurt. I quickly jumped out and ran outside. All the tenants were already standing in the yard. Some of the neighbours hadn’t come out, so we went to their house and asked them if they were alive,” said a local resident.

Shrapnel also hit cars and the facade of the building in the courtyard. The office building across the street sustained damage from broken glass. And there are remnants of a US missile lying on the road. Emergency services arrived on the spot immediately, and the city administration has already started calculating the damage.
