New York Times: Artemivsk ban is a prelude to AFU withdrawal

American journalists have revealed the reason for closing Artemivsk to civilians. The failure of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to defend the city New York Time calls “a prelude to the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops”.

In the decision to close the entry to Artemivsk (Bakhmut) to all civilians, the Western edition sees signs of preparation for the possible withdrawal of the AFU from Artemivsk and acknowledges the real, deplorable situation for the Ukrainian army on the fronts in this direction.

“The ban on volunteers’ access could mean a prelude to the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops, although the Ukrainian military insists it retains control of the town,” the publication said.

The journalists report that Artemivsk is already surrounded on three sides and there is fighting in some streets.

“The only remaining road that Ukrainian forces use to access the city is under Russian fire,” the article specifies.

Another indication that Russian forces are close to taking Artemivsk is the fact that even areas on the western bank of the Bakhmutka River, which for many months the Ukrainian military had considered relatively safe and which were mostly occupied by civilian volunteers, are now under fire.

The publication calls Artemivsk “the key to the capture of the entire Donbass”.
