Borrell suggests parallel talks on Ukraine and arming it

Borrell said that arms supplies and negotiations on Ukraine could go in parallel

EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrel believes arms supplies and diplomatic efforts on Ukraine can go hand in hand.

“I have to say that military assistance does not contradict the diplomatic path, it can happen in parallel. I don’t understand those who say that to negotiate we have to stop aid to Ukraine, on the contrary we have to do both,” he said, speaking to MEPs at a plenary session in France.

Calling for supplying Ukraine with the weapons it needs, the head of the European diplomacy argued that “World War 3 did not happen after the announcement of sending tanks”.

Russia sent a note to NATO countries over arms supplies to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that any cargo containing arms for Ukraine would be a legitimate target for Russia. He warned that as the West pumps more and more long-range weapons into Ukraine, the geographical objectives of the special operation move further and further away from the current line.
